Consider the Lilies (A Meditation)

Consider the lilies, how they grow:

(Awake from slumber, winter is done)

they neither toil nor spin;

(Content to bloom, basking in the Sun)

and yet I say to you,

even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one.

If then God so clothes the grass,

(Displaying His glory in delicate ways)

which today is in the field and tomorrow is thrown into the oven,

(His provision, short-lived, does not mean waste)

how much more will He clothe you, O you of little faith?

And do not seek what you should eat or what you should drink,

(Don't be distracted by immediate appetite)

nor have an anxious mind.

(Worry saps your strength to fight)

For all these things the nations of the world seek after,

(Their God is their belly, their lusts are their love)

and your Father knows that you need these things.

(Will you trust the provision that comes from above?)

But seek the kingdom of God,

(Feast upon the Lamb, be clothed in Truth)

and all these things shall be added to you.
